Colour

I am usually a very monochromatic kind of person - I rarely like to mix my colours.  For some unknown reason, I just love this necklace! It contains so many different colours and seems to go together in a way that makes me feel happy every time I choose to wear it.

All of these element are simple thrifted chains and beads that I have combined into what you see here.

My favourite colours are green and orange. (I have used a little orange, but green is not present in this creation at all). Somehow this combination of colours works for me, even though everything I have learned about colour tells me that these should not work well together. It's a mystery to me, but I love it anyway.

The inspiration for this piece were the colours of Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

In Calgary, I often see Mounties wearing their red serge. And everyday, within a half hour drive, I can see crystal blue skies, scattered white clouds, green tree-covered mountains and waving golden fields of grain,  - a colour palette that is about as far away from Mardis Gras as you can get!

I hope one day to wear this necklace to Mardi Gras.

  4. Hello Marie - found my way here from your comment on my GYB post. Thanks for visiting! I've enjoyed my visit here and starting to get to know you. Actually right now I'm in Calgary to help out our daughter who's on bedrest with her pregnancy, and will get a chance to visit our son in High River as well on this trip. That's a fascinating necklace - it makes me smile too!
